Sourcing
Black spruce thrives in the cold taiga forests of the north. It belongs to the pine family and grows abundantly in northern United States, Canada, and the Arctic. Its bark is dark gray, thin, and scaly, and its needles are bluish-green and short.
A tall, slender tree, black spruce typically grows to 15 meters in height and 50 centimeters in diameter, though some specimens can reach 30 meters and 60 centimeters thick. Under optimal conditions in the taiga forest, black spruce grows strong and steadily from one generation to the next.
Black spruce is primarily harvested for timber, wood pulp, and paper products. After the spruce has been harvested and transported, our sourcing partner will go in with a skidder and gather the leftover branches and needles. The residual materials are then steam distilled to produce powerful and beautiful essential oils.
